7 miler

Ran 7 miles for the first time on Friday. This was my first step toward running the Capital City Half Marathon in Columbus in April.  About four miles into it, I had a thought that "if this was a half marathon, I would still have nine miles to go."  Really wanting to cross that finish line.  Also, Jenna hates the new jeans I bought at Old Navy. They are the smallest jeans I have worn since I was 17.

Feeling like a kid

So here I am, putting what is in my head on the interwebs.  My thought tonight is a lingering one about where I am in my fitness.  First off, if you have stumbled on my blog, a few things you must know. Tuesday marks the one-year anniversary of starting to calorie count and maintain at least a 1,000-calorie deficit per day. Since December 1, 2019, I have lost 156 pounds, for a total of 176 pounds since last October.  While sensible eating has certainly helped, fitness, exercise and frequent running has helped the most. Last week, I ran a 10K in 1:04. Fourteen months ago, I struggled to just walk a mile or two.  My recovery from the 10K felt fast. I went out on Saturday and ran three miles. On Sunday, I trekked four miles. Even as recently as a month or two ago, a four-mile run would have had me gassed. But Sunday’s run was not exhausting. Not in the least.  So here is my dilemma. Where is my limit?  I am still a 240-pound man. We aren’t meant for distance running, even if I am 180 poun

Clothes!

I love buying new clothes! But what stinks is that I am going to get so much use out of these clothes. If there is one small drawback to losing a lot of weight in a short timeframe, it is that you frequently buy and throw out clothes.

My weight loss journey 1 year later

June 2, 2019, I waddled my 420-pound body up Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls. My wife and I have taken an annual road trip for our anniversary every year since getting married in 2014. Our 2019 trip was special as it was the first time I had ever spent the night outside of the United States. I had always been fairly athletic despite my size. I played ba sketball and tennis almost every day growing up. My diet, however, was horrific. I lived off Hot Pockets and ice cream. But exercising every day at least kept me from ballooning as a teenager. Then adulthood came, and the perceived time I had for exercise was replaced with work and chores. Leisure no longer felt like a priority. Walking never felt like a challenge, and the walk from our hotel to the falls wasn’t hateful as it was downhill. But returning from the falls, I was gassed. The simple act of walking had fatigued me to the point that I had to stop. I was shameful. I had never really felt “unhealthy” until this point. Shamers be
